It is safe to say that Celtic have a lot of problems at the moment. But they are nothing compared to the struggles that the Rangers have faced in recent years. They have sacked managers in four consecutive seasons and Danny Rohl's run started with a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Brann in the UEFA Europa League.
It is not just down to the managers how badly things have gone for the Rangers. In fact, one has to wonder if any manager will be able to turn things around for them.
Interestingly, the Rangers did spend significant money in the summer on strengthening their squad. But somehow, it has left them weaker than any other time in recent memory.
Rohl has a tough task on his hands for sure and it has been made tougher because there might not be much budget left to further strengthen the squad in the January transfer window. As reported by Football Insider, Pete O'Rourke said:
"The 49ers group at Rangers would love to back Danny Rohl, but they did have a big summer. Let’s not forget about that.
“They had a £20million net spend and brought in a number of new signings for Russell Martin and a lot of them failed to impress.
“So I don’t think there’s a lot of money left in the transfer coffers for Danny Rohl. And I’m sure he’s well aware of that.
“I don’t think he’d be expecting huge transfer funds to be made available for him January."
Celtic fans left laughing as Danny Rohl already handed bad news
It is worth pointing out that Rohl did turn out the Rangers job at first. Things only got back on track after Kevin Muscat rejected the chance to return to Ibrox. So, one has to wonder what changed between the German manager's first rejection and his eventually agreeing to take over at the struggling Glasgow club.
Perhaps it is possible that he was given assurances that he will be given this season to settle and find his feet, before being judged from the upcoming campaign. Or perhaps he has been assured that he will be backed in the transfer market and build the team in his own vision. We do not know.
As for Celtic, it looks like there biggest challenge this season is going to be Hearts. There is a lot riding on the upcoming game at Tynecastle Park this weekend.
