As Celtic close in on their sixth treble in nine seasons, the Rangers are set to finish another campaign without a trophy. It is safe to say that their supporters are hoping that this one-sided run in Scottish football ends as soon as possible and their major hope in that regard is the club's impending takeover by an American consortium consisting of 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh.

Judging by the reports coming out from various media outlets, that takeover is more than likely to go through. The timing remains in question but it should happen before next season.

What many don't seem to understand though is the fact that the new owners would not be able to immediately transform the Rangers by putting in a lot of investment into the club, even if they wanted to. For now, Celtic are expected to remain the best team in Scotland for the foreseeable future.

A report from the Daily Record goes on to read:

"UEFA Fair Play rules, however, restrict new owners from simply pouring money into a club.

They take into account the club’s value, their assets and their debt.

Some of the Ibrox debt has been transferred into shares equity by directors but that also still comes into the equation.

Rangers made a loss of more than £17million for the year that ended Jun 30, 2024."

This is one aspect that many people have chosen to overlook over the years. Celtic might be in a strong financial position, but that has not stopped the Rangers from going out and spending money in hopes of catching up with the Hoops.

The only difference is that while Celtic have posted major profits pretty much every season, the Rangers have been dealing with significant losses. But that does not change the fact that there is not a huge gap when it comes to the investment already being made by the two Glasgow clubs.

Of course, Celtic need to aware of how things play out at Ibrox when or if the takeover goes through. If the Rangers start making big investments, the Hoops need to be ready to compete with that every step of the way.
