Following their takeover by an American consortium involving 49ers Enterprises, many Rangers fans had expected to shake up Scottish football with their transfer activity this summer as they seek to catch up with Celtic. Well, they are making plenty of additions, but they are mostly free-agent signings or players on loan. Not a lot has changed, has it?
If the Rangers are to make major moves this summer, they will need to rely on exits first. And unfortunately, it looks like one of them might no longer be on the table.
Hamza Igamane was being heavily linked with a £15 million move to Lille. In fact, some rumours had even suggested that he had flown to France to complete the transfer. They were clearly wide of the mark.
According to the Daily Record, reports in France suggest an offer will not be formally made to the Rangers until common ground is found on an asking price, even though Igamane has already agreed personal terms with Lille. In fact, the Ligue 1 club are now studying other profiles besides that of the Moroccan international.
Celtic fans laugh as Daily Record confirm £15m Rangers blow
So, it looks like the Igamane to Lille transfer saga is up in the air. It is very possible that the French club might have already moved on. They have signed Olivier Giroud already.
Let's see what the future holds for Igamane. It is safe to say that the Rangers might need to lower their expectations on a fee, if they want to find him a new home this summer.
As for Celtic, they are set to see a key player leave in the form of Nicolas Kuhn. For the Hoops, the focus has to be on replacing him with a player of similar quality if not better.
