The Scottish footballing campaign is over and transfer season is upon us. If you did not know that, the latest rumour surrounding the Rangers will leave little doubt about it. Of course, the Ibrox club are in search of a manager capable of competing with Celtic. One name that has cropped up often in recent weeks is that of Davide Ancelotti.
Some pretty reliable outlets have claimed that the club are in talks with Ancelotti. It remains to be seen if an appointment is made.
Of course, Ancelotti spent the last four seasons assisting his father at Real Madrid. Unsurprisingly, Los Blancos players are already being linked with moves to Ibrox. Celtic fans would have expected that. What they would not have expected is that Luka Modric would be the first name to crop up in the rumour mill.
Yes, the Ballon d'Or winner is being linked with a move to the Rangers in the twilight of his career. A report from Guillem Balague on BBC reads:
"At Real Madrid, he was widely credited by players as the architect of many modern improvements. Internally, some believe Carlo wouldn't have won as much in his second spell at the Bernabeu without Davide at his side.
And the players know it, including Modric. When asked whether he'd fancy coming to Rangers, he didn't say no.
Whether or not that's realistic, it shows the kind of gravitational pull Davide carries - backed not just by a famous surname, but by the trust of elite players.
Other players have also asked Ancelotti to take them to Scotland."

It is worth mentioning that Modric is set to leave Real Madrid this summer. But even then, it is hard to imagine that he would want to join the Rangers at this point in his career, in what is expected to be his last club.
Interestingly, Modric recently became part of the ownership group of Swansea City. So, it remains to be seen what he next move is for him. Let's just say that we will be very surprised if we ever see him in a Rangers jersey.
As for Celtic, they do not need to be too worried about all the rumours surrounding the Rangers. Everything will become clear soon.
