Kyogo Furuhashi decided to leave Celtic in the middle of this season to join Rennes in Ligue 1. The Japanese striker had enjoyed 'superstar' status during his three-and-a-half seasons with the Scottish champions, scoring 85 goals in total and winning eight trophies for the Hoops. And it was clear that he felt that it was time for a change in scenery, passing on the chance to play in the knockout phase of the Champions League.

Of course, it is nothing new for Celtic players to leave the club for a team in one of Europe's top five European leagues. Not only does that mean more eyeballs but higher wages as well.

Most Celtic fans believe that Kyogo is earning significantly more at Rennes than he was at Celtic. But as it turns out, that might not be the case at all.

As reported by the Daily Record, L'Equipe have produced their annual salary report for every club in Ligue 1. Kyogo is said to be earning a monthly wage of €115,000, which works out to around €26,538 per week and around €1,380,000 per annum.

Celtic fans might be surprised by Kyogo's salary after joining Rennes in the winter

That is not the kind of figure that Celtic fans would have had on their minds. One would imagine that he would been earning pretty close to that figure at Parkhead.

Perhaps the main motivation behind leaving Celtic to move to Rennes was indeed the potential chance to play at the next World Cup for Japan. But unfortunately, Kyogo has not been helped in that regard.

Kyogo has barely featured for Rennes since his move to France. He does not appear to be a key part of Habib Beye's plans and there are already suggestions that he could part ways in the summer.
