It would be an understatement to say that there is a large gap between Celtic and the Rangers right now. The Ibrox club might have won the previous two Glasgow Derbies but overall, they have been nowhere near the Hoops. Brendan Rodgers' side are closing in on another treble, which would be their sixth in nine seasons. On the other hand, their crosstown rivals will finish without a trophy once again.

Barry Ferguson was brought in as interim manager when Philippe Clement was shown the exit door. He made a decent start, getting past Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce in the Europa League and winning at Celtic Park. But right now, it does look like he is having a tough time inspiring his team.

Their most recent performance was a 2-2 draw against St Mirren. It came on the same day that Celtic clinched their fourth-straight Premiership title. The gap between the two teams now stands at 17 points with four games to go.

Ferguson has admitted that teams no longer fear facing the Rangers, whether it is home or away. In fact, they enjoy coming to Ibrox.

It goes without saying that most Celtic fans would have enjoyed Ferguson's brutally honest admission about his own team. One wrote: "It's on him he's been there for quite a few games now & there's only been a decline under his leadership minus 1 win against the team that just got crowned Champions for a record 55 times & 120 trophies."

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Ferguson. But as things stand, it is very unlikely that he will be handed the Rangers job on a permanent basis. There simply has not been enough consistency to warrant that.

The Ibrox club have been linked with quite a few high-profile names in recent times as they look to catch up with Celtic. That includes Steven Gerrard and Mourinho.
