Celtic have had a tough time keeping their best-performing youngsters at the club in recent years. It is understand why that has been the case. The Hoops have a terrible track record when it comes to promoting their academy standouts to the first-team and giving them proper chances at that level of the game.
As a result, many have chosen to leave Celtic Park early on in their careers and look for first-team chances elsewhere. That is an understandable decision for a professional footballer.
In recent times, we have seen talented youngsters like Ben Doak, Rocco Vata and Daniel Kelly leave. And in the summer, Daniel Cummings looks set to join that list as well.
Cummings has been elite at the youth and developmental levels this season, scoring 29 goals across all competitions. His contract runs out in the summer though and he has not signed an extension with the Hoops. Instead, it looks like he is set to join West Ham United at the end of the campaign as a free agent.
Celtic eyeing striker to replace 29-goal player who'll leave
As reported by the Daily Record, Dundee United's Owen Stirton, who is currently on loan at Montrose, has caught the eye of Celtic scouts. He has scored an impressive six goals in eight games for the League One side.
Stirton has already scored for Dundee United at the Premiership level as well. His goal came earlier in the season when he found the back of the net against Ross County after coming off the bench.
Stirton is considered one of the brightest talents in Scottish football right now and it will be interesting to see if Celtic do end up making a move for him in the future. He is believed to have a contract until the summer of 2027 with Dundee United.
