It will be interesting to see what kind of moves Celtic make in the upcoming summer transfer window. There is one we are already aware of though. Kieran Tierney has agreed a pre-contract with the Hoops and will be making his return to Glasgow in the summer. Who will end up serving as his backup option though?

Greg Taylor's contract is set to run out in the summer. And so far, he has not agreed on an extension while being heavily linked with a move away from Parkhead.

Considering Tierney's injury history, Celtic must have a reliable backup option as well though. And that is where a permanent move for Jeffrey Schlupp might become a no-brainer.

Schlupp was signed on loan from Crystal Palace in the winter and not many fans were impressed. But the versatile player has done a brilliant job since arriving at Parkhead and quickly change the supporters' perception about him.

As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Michael Stewart said while speaking on Premier Sports:

"I think so, I think it’s fair to say. I mean, obviously, the whole dynamic with Greg Taylor, the whole contract situation, is clearly an issue.

“Schlupp has come in, and he’s done fairly well. He’s a powerful player, he can play higher up. He can step into the middle of the way that Celtic like to play, so he’s perfectly situated to go and fill the role that Brendan Rodgers wants from a left-back."

It is safe to say that Schlupp has done a brilliant job since pulling on the Celtic shirt and perhaps surprised even his biggest fans. And right now, he has to be ahead of Taylor in the pecking order, who has not been particularly impressive in quite some time.

Schlupp's current deal with Crystal Palace is believed to be running out at the end of the season as well. And he is not expected to be handed an extension. So, that gives the Hoops the perfect opportunity to sign him on a permanent basis.

For Schlupp, a permanent move to Celtic would make a lot of sense as well. It would give him the chance to compete for trophies and play Champions League football in the latter portion of his career.
