Celtic could need to bring in reinforcements in a number of positions across the pitch. One of them is left-back, with Greg Taylor seemingly on his way to Greece while Jeffrey Schlupp's loan stint has come to an end. Let's see what the future holds for both of them, but it is more than likely that the Hoops will need to strengthen there in this window.
We have already seen them being linked with Josh Doig. The former Hibernian left-back is currently at Italian club Sassuolo. On the other hand, it looks like a current Hearts defender is on Celtic's radar as well.
As reported by the Daily Record, Celtic have scouted Hearts' James Penrice. But that does not necessarily mean that they will pursue a deal for the left-back.
This is not the profile of player that Celtic regularly go for. Penrice is 26 years of age and has not even made his Scotland national team debut yet. That being said, as the Luke McCowan signing from last summer showed, there is quality to be found everywhere.
Celtic eyeing move for 26-year-old Hearts defender
It remains to be seen if Celtic end up making a move for Penrice or not. He is a very decent player and could make for a decent backup option to Kieran Tierney.
Last season, Penrice scored two goals and provided five assists in the league for Hearts. Those are pretty good numbers, especially in a team that struggled.
For now, this is only speculation. Over the next few weeks, expect Celtic to be linked with several other left-backs, as the club need to strengthen in that area of the pitch.
At the end of the day, fans can only hope that a decent cover option for Tierney is signed. The Scottish international has a terrible injury record.
