Celtic made plenty of signings in the summer. Some have impressed, like Arne Engels. We knew what we were gonna get from Paulo Bernardo and Adam Idah, and they have delivered. Luke McCowan and Alex Valle have shown flashes of quality as well. Kasper Schmeichel also looks like a shrewd addition. The one addition who has yet to impress though is Auston Trusty.

Trusty was signed on deadline day from Sheffield United for a transfer fee in the region of £6 million. Some had predicted that he would cruise it in Scotland.

It is way too early to come to any conclusions. But from what we have seen from Trusty so far, he has looked shaky at best. He was not great against Championship side, Falkirk, in the League Cup. And the performance against Borussia Dortmund was a horror show.

Admittedly, he was brought in to partner Cameron Carter-Vickers, not take his place in the team. So, we must give him time. That being said, if things do not improve, Celtic might find themselves on the lookout for another centre-back soon. And a great transfer opportunity might become available soon.

Alfie Gilchrist is currently on loan at Sheffield United from Chelsea. And he has been an integral part of the best defence in the Championship.

Gilchrist has been mostly played as a right-back but he is a natural centre-back. And a very solid one at that. Also, his versatility would be an asset to any team.

Still just 20 years of age, he has plenty of time to develop and improve as well. So, signing someone like Gilchrist, if available for the right transfer fee, would be a good idea for Celtic.

Remember, Chelsea let Callum Hudson-Odoi leave for a transfer package believed to be in the region of £5 million. Gilchrist is believed to have a contract with the Blues that runs until the summer of 2026.
