It is expected that Celtic will look to sign a striker in the January transfer window. Their forward line has little to no depth at the moment. Kyogo was never replaced following his departure for Rennes last winter, and on top of that, Adam Idah's exit was sanctioned in the summer without bringing in a replacement first.
Kelechi Iheanacho was signed as a free agent after the close of the summer transfer window. He has spent most of his time out injured though and cannot be relied upon to be the first-choice number 9 for the Hoops.
One striker Celtic have been linked with for a long time now is Evan Ferguson. A move has never materialised but the right opportunity might be set to arrive this winter.
It looks like Ferguson has not been able to win people over at AS Roma. As a result, there is a real possibility that his loan spell at the club could be cut short in the near future. As reported by FootballTransfers, the Italian club's manager Gian Piero Gasperini said:
"Ferguson isn’t convincing me. Even in the second half, for a long time. He hasn’t quite got into the swing of things yet, along with others. But we have a very solid team. Dybala and Soule were served very well and have superior technical quality. I would make the same decisions again."
Celtic handed Evan Ferguson transfer boost by AS Roma manager
Ferguson was one of the most highly rated young strikers in the game when coming through the ranks. But in recent years, he has struggled for any kind of form.
After struggling at Brighton & Hove Albion, he was sent out on loan to West Ham United in the second half of the previous campaign. He did not score even once.
Now, he finds himself on loan at AS Roma but things have not been much better there either. Incidentally, he reminded fans of his quality by scoring twice against Celtic when the two sides met in the Europa League recently.
Ferguson could be a decent addition for Celtic. That being said, it would be a risky move at the same time, as there is no guarantee that he will ever fulfil the promise that he showed early on in his career. Any deal would most likely be a loan one though, which does reduce the risk factor for the Hoops.
