Is Ange Postecoglou set to make a blockbuster return to Celtic? That is a question many fans are hoping to find the answer to as soon as possible. The Australian was very successful during his two-year run at Parkhead. And with the club in need of a manager following the resignation of Brendan Rodgers, could they look towards the Europa League winner?
There have been conflicting reports surrounding the situation of Postecoglou over the past few days. There are suggestions that he could be looking to spend some time away from the game after two sackings in quick succession.
Postecoglou was shown the exit door by Tottenham Hotspur in the summer. Then, he lasted just 39 days as the manager of Nottingham Forest. Another failure is not something he can afford.
Is Celtic the right place for him to succeed at the moment though? The squad has been significantly weakened since he left. The likes of Kyogo, Matt O'Riley, and several others have left, without being properly replaced. Even Postecoglou might struggle to get results out of this team.
Celtic make decision about move to bring back Ange Postecoglou
Despite that, it looks like the Hoops are eager to give it a try. As reported by Football Insider, Celtic will sound out Postecoglou about his interest in returning as manager. The club are set to make contact with the Australian.
To be very honest, Postecoglou seems like the perfect manager for Celtic. He plays an attractive brand of football and has proven that he can win consistently at the domestic level, which is something you must do at Parkhead.
Perhaps even more importantly though, Postecoglou is someone who seems to have a keen eye for talent. Within the space of a year, the club signed Kyogo, Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda, Jota, Josip Juranovic, Giorgos Giakoumakis, O'Riley, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Carl Starfelt and more, during his debut season with the club.
Even the signings that did not work out have ended up proving themselves after leaving. That includes the likes of Tomoki Iwata, Oh Hyeon-gyu and Moritz Jenz.
At Celtic, someone like that is perfect, because it is very clear that the club are only comfortable with signing players within a self-imposed transfer fee range. Postecoglou thrived in that situation while someone like Rodgers struggled.
Of course, Celtic fans should not get their hopes up about Postecoglou's return yet. It would be understandable if the Australian turns it down, whether it be due to his own eagerness to take a break from the game or the difficult situation that the Hoops find themselves in.
