Who will be the next Celtic manager? Most people did not expect to ask themselves this question, at least until the end of this season. But Brendan Rodgers' resignation after falling eight points behind in the title race is a twist in the tale that nobody saw coming. Martin O'Neill and Shaun Maloney have been brought in to be in interim charge for the time being. A long-term solution needs to be found soon though.
The name of Kieran McKenna has been suggested, with the Englishman doing a phenomenal job at Ipswich Town. On the other hand, Ange Postecoglou would be the fans' choice for the role.
There is a third candidate in the race as well though. An Irish legend who had a brief stint at Celtic during his playing days.
O'Neill has suggested that the club are looking for a young manager with proven ability and a bit of a track record. This is someone who would fit that bill. As reported by The Telegraph, Robbie Keane is on the shortlist to succeed Rodgers and become the next Celtic manager.
Irish legend among favourites to become next Celtic manager
Keane has quietly made a brilliant start to life in management since retiring from the game. He has delivered silverware for both Maccabi Tel Aviv and Ferencvaros, the team he currently manages.
Of course, Celtic would be a step up from those teams. That being said, nobody can question Keane's familiarity with the top level of football.
He knows what the pressure feels like at Celtic Park, having played at the club, albeit for a brief loan spell. Other than that, he has been at clubs like Inter Milan, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur. So, this is not someone who would be afraid of the big moments.
That being said, one has to admit that he does not have any experience when it comes to managing under these expectations. Will he be able to handle that side of things?
