Celtic seemingly won't move for their next midfielder target until after their Champions League qualifying second leg with LASK tonight, which is Tuesday night.
The Bhoys take a commanding lead into the second leg after winning 3-0 in the first meeting, at Celtic Park, but it will be a tricky task in Austria. LASK caused Celtic problems despite their heavy defeat, seeing two goals disallowed, and they also missed a golden one-on-one chance within 10 minutes.
Martin O'Neill knows full well that his side could find themselves in trouble if they concede first, so they must approach the tie as one they need to win, at least until they can build on their lead or hold LASK until late in the game.
Celtic still need a midfielder
Celtic are still desperately in need of another midfielder, and they could ideally do with two. Arne Engels' departure left a big hole in the midfielder, and Celtic sorely lack depth there, as proven by the fact Mika Baur and Reo Hatate both had to play out of position to cover for the situation last week.
Time is running out for O'Neill and the club's recruitment staff, with the window shutting on September 3, and given the window shuts for clubs outside of Scotland before that, it's likely clubs will be reluctant to sell players they can no longer replace.
Torino star Gvidas Gineitis is a player who has been linked with Celtic all summer, but he is going to be a pricey signing. For that reason, according to Gianluca Di Marzio, Celtic remain interested in Gineitis, who Torino are willing to sell for the right price, but they will not advance on their interest until they know whether they have qualified for the Champions League league phase, meaning after tonight.
The Bhoys will be able to count on big prize, commercial and TV money if they qualify, which is likely why it will define what kind of business they do between now and the end of the window.
