A number of Celtic's best players have made the move to the Premier League over the years. It was just this summer that Brighton & Hove Albion were able to secure the signature of Matt O'Riley in a Scottish record deal. Other names that come to mind immediately are Odsonne Edouard, Kris Ajer, Virgil van Dijk, Victor Wanyama, Kieran Tierney and several more.
It is not just limited to well-established senior-level players though. There are plenty of Celtic youngsters who have chosen to leave Glasgow for English clubs.
Ben Doak is arguably the biggest talent that has come through the club in recent years, only to make the move to Liverpool before he could ever make a real impact at the senior level. Other than that, Rocco Vata and Daniel Kelly, two players who had a few first-team appearances under their belts, left for England in the summer.
Now, another one of their best youngsters is being linked with a number of Premier League clubs and amid all this, the Hoops have seemingly made a strange decision. As reported by Mail Sport (via Daily Record), Daniel Cummings is yet to receive a formal offer of a contract extension. He will be able to speak to other clubs from January 1 with a view to penning a pre-contract agreement.
Celtic make strange contract decision amid Premier League links
Cummings has been in sensational form for the youth and development teams this season. He has scored 22 goals in 20 appearances.
It does not really get better than that and that is the type of talent that you must give a chance in the senior team. But Cummings is yet to be handed his Celtic debut.
Understandably, there are question marks over his future at Parkhead. Especially with a number of Premier League supposedly interested.
