Celtic are said to be interested in a familiar old target as they look to further bolster the top end of the pitch. The Bhoys have made a start by signing Camilo Duran on a £5.5million deal, and they are expecting to re-sign Kelechi Iheanacho, who had a solid end to last season.
Callum Osmand is also at the club, while Johnny Kenny looks likely to depart, perhaps this time on a permanent deal. So, even after Iheanacho, we may not have seen the last of Celtic's attacking recruitment.
Celtic circle back for old target Dolberg
Celtic are now said to be interested in striker Kasper Dolberg, who was a clear target for them last summer. The Danish frontman ended up joining Ajax, where he played previously, but he has struggled for form.
Scoring just three goals, Dolberg has not lived up to expectations, and he could now be sold just one year after arriving for around £8million. According to Danish outlet PL Bold, Celtic are now one of the interested clubs, with Ajax said to be willing to sell if a good offer is received.
In fact, Dolberg is said to have been left out of Ajax's early pre-season work, adding fuel to the transfer rumour flames. Midtjylland in Dolberg's country have also been linked, while Celtic remain in the frame. Dolberg could be seen as an alternative to Kieron Bowie, who could prove too expensive this summer.
It's unclear what kind of fee Ajax are looking for to sell Dolberg, but given they spent around £8million and his form has declined since, it's likely they will have to take a hit. Celtic may be able to strike a deal for £5million-£6million.
Dolberg has fallen short of expectations
Dolberg was once tipped to be the next big thing, winning the Danish talent of the year back in 2016.
He was also praised by then Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who said: "Who doesn't know Kasper Dolberg? You can't play at Ajax without being noticed. Kasper Dolberg has a very great future. He is a fantastic player.
"I love Danish players. I had Leon Andreasen at Mainz, he was a monster. I also have fond memories of Bo Svensson. And Mohamed Zidan - he is probably half Danish, because his wife is Danish! But it's not that they are Danes, it is all about their qualities."
Dolberg has never managed to join a top-tier club, with many having expected him to become a world-beater, but that only benefits Celtic should they wish to sign the 28-year-old.
