Celtic find themselves in a terrible position right now. Yes, they might have won their three previous domestic games, including the Glasgow Derby, but the mood around Parkhead could not be worse. The AGM mess was the latest chapter in a season where nothing seems to be going their way. Less than 24 hours later, there is further bad news though.
The only thing that can lift the move is a good run of form. The issue is, the Hoops are not well-placed to go one, thanks to their weak squad and a mountain of injury problems on top of it.
News has already broken out that Cameron Carter-Vickers is set to miss the remainder of this season. He might not even make the World Cup. But he is not the only one who is out for the foreseeable future.
Alistair Johnston and Callum Osmand are set to spend months out on the sidelines as well, after both underwent surgeries. The extent of the absence has now been confirmed. As reported by The Scotsman, Martin O'Neill said:
"With Alistair Johnston, it'll be four or five months. Callum Osmand, although they had the same operation, they had the same operation on the same day, his was worse, believe it or not. He’ll be five months."
Celtic confirm more bad news after yesterday's AGM mess
You cannot help but feel bad for Johnston. He was rushed back into the starting XI against Sturm Graz, as Brendan Rodgers was clearly eager to get a result and ended up suffering another injury, and a worse one. He should have been eased back in.
On the other hand, just when Osmand had started to make his presence felt for Celtic, even scoring against the Rangers, he suffered this injury. It was a terrible blow for the youngster. We wish both the best in their recovery and hope to see them back on the pitch, once they are fully fit.
Now, it is up to the club to find ways to keep delivering, even with a weakened squad. They must make full use of the January transfer window.
