Celtic boss Martin O'Neill is recovering in hospital after a health scare, the club has confirmed.
O'Neill oversaw the first game of the season on Monday night, with his Celtic side coming out on top against Dundee in a close contest. Benjamin Nygren scored the winner, heading home Kieran Tierney's cross.
Just two days later, it has been confirmed that O'Neill, who is 74 years of age, has undergone a procedure in hospital that will keep him out of coaching action for at least a couple of days.
Celtic confirm O'Neill's condition in club statement
Celtic released a statement on Wednesday, confirming O'Neill's situation. It read: "In response to speculation, we can confirm that Martin O'Neill has undergone a small procedure in hospital.
"We would envisage Martin being released from hospital in the next day or two and on behalf of Martin, we would like to thank supporters for their kind wishes. We would ask that the privacy of Martin and his family is respected."
Celtic are next in action on Sunday, when they face Kilmarnock, and one would imagine that O'Neill will not be involved in preparations for the next couple of days. But he does have a trusted group of backroom staff who can ensure the sessions are run as usual, and O'Neill typically hasn't done a lot of on-field coaching over recent years anyway.
The Northern Irishman is more of the old school ways of having assistants running the sessions, keeping a close eye and jumping in when a point needs to be made.
