With the Scottish Cup final set to be played, Celtic's focus has to be on getting the better of Aberdeen at Hampden Park and completing the treble. It will be Brendan Rodgers' third, a record, and the club's ninth overall. Of course, they cannot afford to overlook the Dons for a second. Jimmy Thelin's side have pulled off some upsets already in this season while the Hoops will be without Reo Hatate and Jota, both out injured for the foreseeable future.
After the final, the focus will need to quickly need to turn towards the summer transfer window though. Celtic must qualify for the Champions League main stage next season. So, one would hope that they get their business done early.
One of the positions they seem to be looking to strengthen is defensive midfield. That is a profile that the Hoops are missing right now, and one that could serve them well in big European games.
Kalidou Sidibe of Guingamp is someone they have been linked with. And there is a positive update for Celtic, when it comes to the Frenchman's future.
Celtic's chances of signing former PSG player boosted as bid prepared
As reported by Foot Amateur, when Sylvain Ripoll was asked about the chances of seeing Sidibe in a Guingamp jersey next season, the manager said:
"I would like to, but I'm not fooled either. They probably want to see what's going on higher up the league. They only have one year left on their contract. As long as their interests are protected, the club will listen. So there must be the requests the players want and the club must be protected. But if they continue with us, I would be very happy."
So, it sounds like the door is pretty open when it comes a potential Sidibe exit in the summer. Interestingly, there were reports in the media a couple of months back that Celtic were preparing to make a bid for the French midfielder.
Sidibe is certainly the kind of profile that Celtic are missing right now. He is the tallest player in Ligue 2 right now and would immediately add a physical presence in the middle of the park for the Hoops.
