Celtic can sign the €5 million-rated Argentine winger, currently captaining in the MLS, for free in January, with his contract running out at the end of 2025.

Having signed Sebastian Tounekti, it looks like Celtic might have filled their needs on the left flank. The Tunisian winger has looked brilliant in his first two appearances for the club, and hopefully, this is just a sign of things to come. And when Jota returns to fitness in 2026, there can be some healthy competition in that position. Do not forget Daizen Maeda as well, although he seems to be keen on a Parkhead exit in the near future and might not be here for the long run.

While the situation might look rosy on the left flank, the same cannot be said about the opposite one. Michel-Ange Balikwisha did not exactly impress on the right. Yang Hyun-jun has his moments but it does not feel like he is a Celtic starter. The same can be said about James Forrest, who is well past his prime.

So, do not be surprised if Celtic try to sign a winger in the winter to fill the spot on the right flank. And it looks like an in-form one could be available as a free agent at that point.

The player we are talking about is Cristian Espinoza. He has represented Argentina on three occasions at the senior level. The 30-year-old is currently captaining the San Jose Earthquakes in the MLS and has had a pretty good season.

Espinoza has scored 4 goals and provided 9 assists in 28 MLS appearances for the Earthquakes this season. His current deal is set to run out at the end of this year though. Unless an extension is agreed, he is set to be available as a free agent.

Espinoza already has experience of playing in Europe. He has been at Alaves, Valladolid and Villarreal. Other than that, he has played for Boca Juniors and Huracan in Argentina.

Someone of his quality and experience, as a free agent, could be a solid addition to this Celtic team. The club do have a habit of signing veterans when without a club. Could he be the next name on that list? It is certainly an option worth considering.
