Celtic have not signed a lot of players from other Scottish clubs in recent years. They did this summer though, bringing in Luke McCowan from Dundee FC for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of £1 million. That figure is proving to be a bargain and a half because the 26-year-old is contributing for Brendan Rodgers' side already and some fans even want him to start ahead of record signing Arne Engels.

It remains to be seen if McCowan does end up becoming a starter for Celtic. He did get a start against Motherwell and boosted his chances by scoring a goal on the day.

There was another midfielder on the pitch who caught the eye in that game but he was playing for Motherwell. We are talking about Lennon Miller.

Miller struck the woodwork on two occasions against Celtic. The first was from a long-range effort and the second from a free kick. It is easy to see that his time at Fir Park won't be a long one.

Celtic urged to break transfer record to sign midfielder

Celtic have been urged to make a move for Miller. As reported by Football Scotland, Tam McManus told PLZ Soccer:

"I think he’ll break [Motherwell’s] transfer record. At 18 years old, I watched him closely yesterday for the first 25 minutes, the positions he takes, his body position, his ability on the ball, his shot off the post, his free-kick off the bar, he is one of the best young players I’ve seen in a while.

"Motherwell are going to get a fortune for him, but they need to try and keep him for as long as possible because I think he’s their best player. He’s the best young player in Scotland for me. If you’re Celtic, you go in after the game and you ask them how much they want for him.

"He was that good. If you’re Brendan Rodgers or the Celtic board, you go into Motherwell, and you ask them ‘How much do you want for Lennon Miller?’"

Signing someone like Miller would certainly be a good idea for Celtic. They sign highly-rated youngsters from all over the world. Why not look a little closer to home?

Of course, if Celtic did end up signing Miller, they would need to have a plan for his development into a starter in the middle of the park. At the end of the day, one cannot deny that the Hoops' recent record when it comes to developing youngsters at the senior level, has not been great.

Celtic are no strangers to signing talented midfielders from Motherwell either. In the past, they have signed David Miller from the Fir Park outfit.
