Adam Idah was on the scoresheet as Celtic cruised past Motherwell in a 3-0 win at Fir Park. But the day was not without its worries as well. The Republic of Ireland international was on the receiving end of a bad tackle towards the end of the game, which has left the Hoops supporters worried about his situation.
Idah is very important to this Celtic team. Not only does he score goals but he also gives them a very different option to Kyogo.
That came in handy against Atalanta in midweek, as he got the nod over Kyogo when Celtic needed to play a more structured brand of football to keep the opposition at bay. Thus, with more high-profile Champions League games coming up, Brendan Rodgers will surely want to have Idah available as an option, whether as a starter or to bring off the bench.
Rodgers gave an update on the situation of Idah after the game against Motherwell, acknowledging that he had his ankle rocked. The manager told Sky Sports:
"Yeah, I think it felt a bit numb for him at first. It’s not a great challenge, but I don’t think the player's tried to hurt him. The problem is when you leave the ground, and it rocked his ankle, so he was struggling for a little bit after that. But then I think once he got moving, it was okay. So we just have to wait and see when he takes the boot off, but I’m sure there’ll be a bit of swelling there."
Celtic boss drops worrying Adam Idah update after bad tackle
It was a bad challenge to say the least. The only silver lining is that Idah felt okay once he got moving. One can only hope that it is nothing serious and that the Irishman does not end up needing to spend any significant amount of time out on the sidelines.
The goal against Motherwell was Idah's fifth of the season. A fantastic return from a striker who has not played even 500 minutes of football across all competitions so far in the ongoing campaign.
Celtic had struggled for a while without a proper backup to Kyogo after Giorgos Giakoumakis. But Idah is someone who has taken on that role and is doing a great job. There are some who believe that he should be starting more regularly. Let's see how things go.
