Celtic could be about to put their fans back on the transfer roller coaster again. This time it’s on the up with further news that another incoming deal is close. That would be on top of the expected announcement for Haissem Hassan.
Hassan remains likely to be confirmed very soon. He has apparently been spotted in training on Wednesday with the squad at Lennoxtown. It may have been a slow deal, but no time is being wasted now to familiarise him with his new teammates.
That news will give the Celtic fans a huge lift. It also enhances the squad with quality ahead of the Champions League playoff next week. Wouldn't it be great if a further signing was confirmed this week too?
A Celtic transfer week to remember?
The deal for Mika Baur has been brewing for a while now. The German midfielder seemed set on a move to Celtic. A fee was believed to have been agreed with his club SC Paderborn 07, but they haven't moved to complete the sale. Stories suggest they have tried to claim a higher price.
While Paderborn had indicated they'd be happy if Baur stayed, despite him then being available as a free agent at the season's end, the player wasn't keen on that idea. Today rumours are circulating from Germany that Baur has missed training. It looks as though he has pushed harder for the move. The news suggests he already has a medical lined up this week for Celtic.
If that's the case, he too could be signed and registered ahead of Thursday’s UEFA cutoff for the playoffs. Even if the formal announcement and scarf-over-his-head media content followed later, or on Friday.
With the front line looking strong again, the midfield and defence would be next in line for attention. Arne Engels is still in place, but more bids are likely, and an exit is anticipated, hopefully after the Lask ties. Bringing in Baur now adds some depth and future cover.
Baur seems to have great potential. He is only just emerging from the German second tier, but by all accounts has a great future. A move to the Celtic midfield, Champions League or at least Europa League football would help his development hugely. Can the Celtic recruitment team close another big deal this week? Strap yourself in fans, it could be an exciting ride!
