It would be safe to say that the fans are unhappy with how Celtic have conducted their business in the summer transfer window so far. Of course, there have been some good additions. Bringing back Kieran Tierney was a no-brainer and it looks like Benjamin Nygren could be an immediate starter as well. But beyond that, has enough quality been added to the squad? On the other hand, players like Greg Taylor, Nicolas Kuhn, Maik Nawrocki, Luis Palma and more have left.

Brendan Rodgers surely cannot be pleased either. And if some of his recent comments are anything to go by, he wants more to be done, if there is to be any chance of extending his contract at Parkhead.

This is the final year of Rodgers' current deal. Most fans would want him to be handed an extension rather than bring in a different manager next summer.

But Rodgers has made it clear what he needs to happen to even consider extending his current deal. The fans will nod in agreement as well. As reported by Sky Sports, the Celtic manager said:

"My overriding feeling is I want to help the club continue moving forward. I'm not the type of manager to just maintain something, I'm not the right guy to have.

"I need to build, I need to work with players, develop individual players.

"If the club feel that that is something that they want, then I'm pretty sure we'd come to an agreement and if not, we'll give absolutely everything until the very end here."

That is very fair on the part of Rodgers. He wants the club to show some ambition and move forward. That was what all the talk was about when he was brought back for a second stint.

And to be honest, we have seen some progress as well. Last year, Celtic made the knockout phase of the Champions League for the first time in over a decade. Then they narrowly lost to Bayern Munich, 3-2 on aggregate while getting a draw away at the Allianz Arena. That counts for something.

That is why many had thought that the club would back Rodgers this summer with some quality signings. So far, the ambition shown has not met the expectations. Hopefully, that changes as soon as possible and all parties are happy with the situation at Parkhead. The ball is in the Celtic board's court now.
