The Celtic board have been dubbed 'out of date' by journalist Hugh Keevins. The Bhoys are in a frustrating spot currently, losing their last three games going into the international break to set the alarm bells ringing.
The results have been bad enough, with Celtic suffering back-to-back Old Firm defeats and a disappointing Europa League defeat to Ferencvaros between them. But it's the performances themselves that have been the worry, with the Bhoys looking all too flat.
There is a huge midfield issue that likely cannot be properly addressed until January, and if any issue is emblematic of the board's poor decision-making, it is that one.
Celtic sold Arne Engels for an EFL-record £22million in the summer, and they knew they were going to sell him. But despite losing their most talented player, they did not feel it was imperative that he was replaced, refusing to spend even half of the Engels profits on a new midfielder.
It was baffling that Celtic did not address the issue before the ill-fated Champions League qualifier, and then once they were out of the competition, it was seen as too expensive to meet the asking price of Gvidas Gineitis.
Celtic were neither willing to gamble or willing to put it right after the fact, and it was a similar story last summer. Despite that, the club has posted losses in their accounts, further highlighting that the current approach isn't working from any angle.
Cutting costs is one thing, but it at least has to lead to increased profits for it to be anything close to worth it.
“Celtic are in trouble all over the place," Keevins told Clyde1. "There is doubt over the manager’s future. They have issued financial figures that suggest that they are no longer running the business as successfully as they once did. They are losing money through non-qualification of the Champions League, which is becoming an annual event like Christmas, as far as Celtic are concerne.
“People are looking at the running of the club. The day-to-day running of the club, and thinking, ‘They are losing their way here.’ They are out-of-date as a football club.”
“The interim chairman, who incidentally is still the interim chairman, nine months after assuming that title. At Celtic, things sure move slowly.”
Many Celtic fans have the same beliefs, but it feels like there is going to need to be a lack of success for things to come to a head. While the Bhoys are still winning league titles, the board will continue to have something to stand on.
