Celtic have been handed quite a few transfer blows in recent times as they keep missing out on rumoured transfer targets. One area where they urgently need to strengthen is on the flank. Why is that the case? Well, Nicolas Kuhn is set to join Como FC in a €19 million move. But the Hoops' top target has joined a different club already.
When the news broke that Celtic were set to see Kuhn join Como this summer, the first name to be linked with the Hoops was that of Isak Jansson. The Swede had already replaced the German winger once, at Rapid Vienna.
So, it looked like Celtic were hoping that he would be able to repeat that trick in Glasgow. Well, we won't know if he was capable or not, because he has ended up in France instead.
The Swedish winger will be playing his football in Ligue 1 next season. OGC Nice have announced the signing of Jansson on their official website.
Celtic blow confirmed as late-night announcement made
Well, that is the end of all the rumours that had been linking Celtic with a move for Jansson. There had been some suggestions that the Hoops had even made an offer for him.
But it is also easy to see why Celtic did not end up signing him. It is believed that Nice have signed Jansson for a figure in the region of €10 million. That is about three times the transfer fee it had taken the Hoops to bring Kuhn to Glasgow in early 2024.
Now, it remains to be seen who Celtic will end up signing this summer in order to replace Kuhn on the wing. They have been linked with quite a few players over the past several weeks. The most likely to make that move is Michel-Ange Balikwisha.
Balikwisha has been on the radar of Celtic going back to last summer. Now, he seems to be heading for the Royal Antwerp exit door, on the back of an injury-riddled campaign, and there have been suggestions that the Hoops could sign him for a bargain fee.
