There are a lot of complaints surrounding Celtic at the moment. Most of them are regarding how the club has been run, showing a clear lack of ambition in terms of transfers, despite posting record revenue and profits. The lack of communication on their part to the fans' concerns has been a topic of discussion as well.
Amid all this, one that has gotten a bit lost in the shuffle is the lack of players who have come through the academy in recent years to become first-team regulars. The last person to make that jump was Kieran Tierney. Anthony Ralston has been involved, for sure, but he is a cover option.
Colby Donovan's involvement in the team has raised hopes that Celtic could have their next academy-trained star on their hands. That being said, it will be interesting to see how often he gets chances once Alistair Johnston is back from his injury.
It is a move in the right direction though. And Celtic have announced another positive step recently, handing out a long-term extension to one of their most important players.
Celtic announce brilliant long-term contract extension news
As reported by Celtic's official website, Samuel Isiguzo has signed a new deal with the club. it will see him remain at Parkhead until the summer of 2028.
Isiguzo is very highly regarded at Celtic. So much so that he is the captain of Stephen McManus’ B Team.
Now, it remains to be seen if he can continue his development and make the jump to the first-team. That is a step that many have failed to take in recent times, despite showing a ton of promise while coming through the B team.
That being said, there are other problems that Celtic have faced in recent times as well. One of them is players leaving early in their careers rather than waiting for their chances to come around at Parkhead.
