Michel-Ange Balikwisha is someone Celtic have had on their radar for more than a year now. The Belgian winger seems to be someone that the Hoops are clearly fans of. But so far, they have not been able to get a deal done. And just when it looked like everything was in place, there's another unforeseen twist in this seemingly never-ending transfer tale.
Celtic need to strengthen on the flanks and as quickly as possible. Not only have we seen Nicolas Kuhn, one of the club's best performers, leave this summer but Jota is set to remain sidelined with injury for several more months.
That has left Brendan Rodgers scrambling for options. Daizen Maeda is now back on the flank, despite his impressive performances as a striker. And James Forrest seems to be a starter, a role he last had back in Neil Lennon's time as Celtic manager.
It had looked like Celtic were set to finally end their wait for a winger and sign Balikwisha this summer. But now, there is another U-turn that makes little sense.
Celtic agree Michel-Ange Balikwisha deal but there's another U-turn
As reported by the Daily Record, Celtic have reportedly suffered another blow in their attempts to sign Balikwisha with a scheduled medical scuppered. A report in Belgium cites an "internal issue" at Royal Antwerp scuppering the principal agreement to take the Belgian winger to Parkhead.
Balikwisha himself is believed to be keen on making the move to Celtic. So, it remains to be seen if these issues can be ironed out in the remainder of this summer transfer window and a move can be completed in time.
Of course, time is of the essence here. Celtic cannot afford to wait for too long and might need to turn their attention elsewhere if things are not sorted out soon.
