The focus for Celtic seems to be on strengthening their options going forward and in defence right now. That is why they are closing in on moves for defenders, Isaac English and Hayato Inamura, as well as winger Benjamin Nygren and forward Callum Osmand. But that does not mean that the club are overlooking their midfield department.

There have been some suggestions that Brendan Rodgers is actually planning to play Nygren as a number 10. It remains to be seen if that is accurate or not. On the other hand, there are plenty of other midfielders that Celtic have been linked with for months leading up to the summer transfer window.

It does look like the club want to add some agility and steel to their midfield. Names like Kalidou Sidibe, Elvis Rexhbecaj, Demir Tiknaz and plenty others have been linked with a move to Celtic Park.

Now, it looks like a Premier League midfielder is on their radar as well. As reported by Football Insider, Celtic are set to step up their efforts to sign West Ham United's Andy Irving this summer.

Irving has had an interesting journey in football. Of course, one benefit of signing him would be that he is already accustomed to the Scottish game, having come up through the youth ranks at Hearts and played a decent bit of football for them at the senior level.

He would then end up going to Germany, joining Turkgucu Munchen. After a brief spell there, he joined Austria Klagenfurt. And his stint there was impressive enough to convince West Ham United to make a move.

Irving has not gotten much playing time at West Ham United though. He made just 11 appearances last season, with the arrival of Graham Potter as manager not changing his luck. So, it might be time to leave and Celtic could be a great destination to turn his career around as it is clearly headed nowhere with the Hammers right now.
