After being linked with the likes of Jose Mourinho and Marco Rose, the Rangers' appointment of Russell Martin has not gone down well with their supporters. That being said, Celtic fans will know all about managers being written off before even arriving. That was the case with Ange Postecoglou and look at how that turned out. So, the Hoops should not be taking him lightly even for a second.
Celtic are winless in three games against the Rangers. So, they have plenty to worry about when it comes to the fixture and no time to look at what's happening at Ibrox.
On the other hand, the Ibrox supporters have been left underwhelmed by the club's managerial appointment even though he has a past with the Rangers, having spent time on loan with the club.
Also, it is safe to say that Rangers fans won't like some of Martin's past comments about Celtic, which have re-emerged after he was handed the Ibrox job. In a video posted by Sky Sports News last December, he said while defending Ange Postecoglou:
"I watched a lot of his Celtic team, they were brilliant. They got so much praise for being so aggressive, so brave. Relentless restarts. Energy, energy, energy. He did a great job. Won lots of trophies. Played in the Champions League."
'Brilliant' - Russell Martin's past comments about Celtic emerge
Those comments won't probably go down well with a large section of the Rangers fanbase, that is for sure. There is another similarity between Martin and Postecoglou. Both of them have an idea about their brand of football that they seem unwilling to deviate from.
Of course, Celtic fans will be hoping that that is where the similarities end. It is worth pointing out that Postecoglou was a proven winner before arriving in Scotland. The same cannot be said about Martin. Other than taking Southampton to the Premier League, he has not had much success as a manager.
Celtic have every reason to be confident going into next season. Brendan Rodgers has come up against plenty of Rangers managers over his two stints in Glasgow, and none of them have succeeded. Will Martin be the one to end that run? Hopefully not.
