Brendan Rodgers has made it clear on more than one occasion that he is intent on seeing out his Celtic contract this time around, having left the club in the middle of the 18/19 season in his first stint, a decision that he regretted. But when media briefings like last night's one come out, they often spell the beginning of the end. Let's see how things go from here.

It would be very surprising if Rodgers is Celtic manager by this time next year though. Clearly, he was not backed in this transfer window despite knowing that he has less than a year left on his contract.

Over his second spell as Celtic manager, we often seen Rodgers call for signings to be made, but after that he has not received that backing for the club. It is hard to imagine that he will extend his contract, even if he chooses to see out the current one.

As reported by Football Insider, Pete O'Rourke said:

"He wanted players in before the Champions League qualifiers which didn’t arrive, and of course Celtic ended up crashing out of the competition."

Brendan Rodgers unhappy with Celtic because of one clear reason

It is very understandable why Rodgers would be unhappy with the current situation at Celtic. Not only did the club fail to strengthen, but in recent times, they have not even properly replaced the players who have departed.

Kyogo and Adam Idah were not replaced at well. And it remains to be seen if either Michel-Ange Balikwisha or Sebastian Tounekti is good enough to take Nicolas Kuhn's place in the team.

In the same report, O'Rourke further stated about Rodgers' unhappiness with the current situation at Celtic:

"Brendan Rodgers was unhappy with the way they did their business.

“It’ll be a frustrating time for him, but whether it has any direct impact on his long-term future at Celtic remains to be seen.

“He’s not too happy because he wanted to build on a success of last season, but that hasn’t happened."

Rodgers did help Celtic get into the knockout phase of the Champions League after more than a decade last season. And they did give Bayern Munich a run for their money over two legs. But unfortunately, the Hoops have not built on that. And now, it remains to be seen what the future holds for the manager. Could he leave in the middle of the season again?

That feels unlikely, but it cannot be ruled out. Once Premier League clubs begin to sack managers, one would imagine Rodgers will be on the receiving end of a few offers. And with the lack of backing he has gotten at Celtic, it might be tempting to leave. To be very honest, the fans should not blame him if he did so.

If Rodgers is indeed unhappy with how things have been handled at Celtic, he has reason to be. Most fans are in the same boat. Let's see if any genuine chances occur as a result of it or we eventually find ourselves back to square one soon.
