When we look back in the future, this 2025 summer transfer window might very well go down as the worst in Celtic history. Of course, we all know how things turned out in the 20/21 campaign. But at the start of September, there was not as much negativity as we are seeing this time around. At least the club had kept their best players around in hopes of winning 10IAR.
This time around. we have seen them part ways with Nicolas Kuhn and Adam Idah without bringing in proper replacements. They received a significant sell-on fee from Jeremie Frimpong's move to Liverpool as well but nearly not enough money was reinvested into rebuilding Brendan Rodgers' squad.
Coming out of the summer transfer window, Celtic's main striker might be Kelechi Iheanacho. The Nigerian striker scored once in 15 appearances in his most recent loan spell at Middlesbrough. Not much else needs to be said.
Of course, a lot has been made in the past 24 hours about Brendan Rodgers looking to leave the club. And after this summer window, why should he not give that a consideration? And he might not be the only one, either.
Three Celtic starters tipped to leave after nightmare summer window
There are some Celtic players who might try to leave after this show of lack of ambition. Chris Sutton wrote in his column in the Daily Record:
"Why would the likes of Alistair Johnston, Cameron Carter-Vickers or Reo Hatate hang around if they don't see any ambition being shown by the club?"
That's a very genuine question to ask. These players have been starters for a while. And if they see that the club is not moving in the right direction, it is only natural for them to try and find new challenges. Do not be surprised to see a few of them head for the exit door next.
The issue is not Rodgers wanting to leave, whether it is true or not. The issue are the circumstances at the club, which might make him want to do that.
