Brendan Rodgers did not see out his contract at Celtic the first time around, as he left the club in the middle of the 18/19 season to join Leicester City. It was a move that made the supporters unhappy and he was not a popular figure around Parkhead until his return in the summer of 2023 for a second run in the Parkhead hot seat.
Could we see Rodgers leave Celtic once again in the middle of his contract? That feels unlikely, as the manager has talked about at least seeing out his deal this time. But never say never in football.
Rodgers guided Celtic past the first round of the Champions League this season and the Hoops took Bayern Munich to their limit in the knockout phase, narrowly losing the tie 3-2 and drawing away at Allianz Arena. Surely, that would have caught the eye of clubs around Europe.
As reported by Football Insider, Rodgers could quit Celtic this summer in favour of a return to the Premier League. The Northern Irishman is content at Parkhead, but he could have his head turned byinterest from the English first division. Top-tier clubs are believed to be keeping tabs on his situation.
Brendan Rodgers tipped to quit Celtic for Premier League return
Of course, this is not something that Celtic fans will want to hear. Rodgers leaving Celtic once again in the middle of his contract feels unthinkable, considering how badly his first exit was received by the supporters.
Never say never in football though, especially if a top club come calling. There could be plenty of changes in the Premier League this summer. In fact, the Tottenham Hotspur job could become available, with Ange Postecoglou's future in serious doubt right now.
One can only hope that Rodgers stays put at Celtic beyond this season and at least remains at Parkhead for the remainder of his contract. Then, he can leave with the good wishes of the fans if he wants to. At 52 years of age, he should still have plenty left in the tank.
