The Jamie Vardy to Celtic transfer links have picked up a lot of pace over the past couple of days. Some reports have even suggested that the Leicester City legend has his heart set on a move to Parkhead. Of course, under these circumstances, it was only a matter of time before Brendan Rodgers was asked about the striker.
It is no secret that Rodgers would like a striker to be brought in before the close of the summer transfer window. He has already mentioned how Adam Idah performed better when competing for his place in the team with Kyogo.
Vardy is someone he knows very well. The two worked together to a ton of success during their time together at Leicester City. The striker is rumoured to be keen on a reunion with his former manager as well.
Interestingly, when asked about the matter, Rodgers did not rule it out, as he has sometimes done with other rumours in the past. As reported by The Celtic Way, the manager said:
"Listen, I will not speak about any individual player.
"Of course, I worked really well with Jamie; he was brilliant for me in my time at Leicester. But no, there have been so many names floated about, but I wouldn't disclose either way."
Brendan Rodgers gives interesting reply when asked about Jamie Vardy to Celtic
Rodgers seems to be keen to keep his cards close to his chest. So, make of those comments what you will. Nothing seems to be clear at this point in time. That is not a great thing when you consider that there barely a couple of weeks left in this summer transfer window.
Celtic need to get some deals done and quickly, before this summer transfer window closes. And on a short-term basis, signing Vardy would not be a bad idea.
Yes, Vardy is 38 years of age. But he has not had a lot of injury problems over the course of his career. Also, he did score 9 Premier League goals just last season, for a Leicester City team that got relegated and managed a total of 33 over their campaign.
