Brendan Rodgers is in the final year of his contract with Celtic and most would have imagined that the club would have been keen to show their eagerness to keep him by showcasing their ambition in this summer transfer window. So far, it has been anything but that. The Hoops look set to enter the 25/26 campaign much weaker than the previous one.
The hope is that Celtic have been clearing the squad over the past few weeks and will now turn up the pace when it comes to making signings. But in that respect, some of Rodgers' recent comments will worry the supporters, that is for sure.
It looks like Rodgers does not have any updates regarding any transfers being close. Of course, managers always like to keep their cards close to their chest. But this does not feel like one such instance.
As reported by the Daily Record, Rodgers said regarding Celtic's transfer situation:
"I haven’t had any update as yet. I’m very hopeful that will be the case. We know we want to improve the squad."
Brendan Rodgers drops worrying Celtic transfer news
It remains to be seen what the rest of the summer transfer window holds for us. But at this point in time, it does not feel like the Hoops are making any significant progress when it comes to signings.
Of course, we could be wrong. And honestly, we would like to be. Let's hope that the Hoops are working silently behind the scenes, with the Scottish media unaware, and a few signings will be made in the very near future.
But that does not feel like the case. Instead, recent reports have emerged that the club have made three failed offers for Jakob Breum of Go Ahead Eagles. Even the third of them, which was £3 million, was not even half of what the Dutch club is looking for, which is said to be around £6.5 million.
Celtic do seem to want to 'win' every transfer deal. Perhaps they should instead focus on getting some deals over the line instead.
