Brendan Rodgers might drop Celtic fan favourite

It is a great position for Celtic to be in on Boxing Day. Fans would readily have accepted a double-digit lead in the Premiership and the League Cup in the bag at this point of the campaign if that was on offer at the season's start. Yet while that's all great, there’s a slight niggle that recent performances have been a bit below par.

It was two points dropped against Dundee United last weekend. Celtic huffed and puffed but couldn't get the ball in the net. To be fair, it was a makeshift team after illness and injury. But in some of the matches before that the Hoops haven't hit the same level as earlier in the season. Thankfully, they followed that result up with a 4-0 win over Motherwell.

All things considered though, it makes it all the more likely that Brendan Rodgers might be about to shake things up. The January window gives an opportunity for fresh faces, although it's not always the best time to bring new players in.

Last season, the arrival of Adam Idah made a big impact. Important goals from the Irishman secured wins and points. Could we see more of him in the second half of the campaign?

That may be where Rodgers places his faith again. Idah looked lively when he came on the pitch against Dundee United and was handed the start in the 4-0 win against Motherwell.

On the other hand, Kyogo has looked off-colour and missed good chances in recent appearances. He is clearly no longer having the same impact that he did while playing in Ange Postecoglou's system.

Rumours also suggest that Atlanta United, now managed by Ronny Deila, may be keen to make a £10 million move for Kyogo. It may be that the striker would prefer to see the season out. But if Rodgers made a change up front now the striker's view may alter.

This could be the time to start with Idah up front rather than as an impact substitute. He has shown what he is capable of, although has been a slightly slow starter this season. That could be down to needing a run of games and more time on the pitch.

There have also been suggestions that Johnny Kenny could be handed the third striker role starting in January. He has been in fine scoring form on loan for Shamrock Rovers. He seems to have a good eye for goal and could offer something fresh.

We wouldn't expect to see Kyogo fall out of the match-day squads entirely. But we could see more of Idah and perhaps Kenny occasionally with a rest now and again for the Japanese forward. And of course, one has to wonder whether those exit rumours will lead anywhere.
