Celtic's lack of urgency in the summer transfer window has frustrated a lot of fans. It had started out quite well and the Hoops had made a number of early additions, even though they were not big-money ones. But departures have followed, and the club have not been moving fast enough to fill the voids that have been created over the past few weeks in Brendan Rodgers' squad.
Let's be honest, the Flag Day performance was nothing to write home about. Celtic could have easily dropped points, and thankfully, Luke McCowan came up with a winner after coming off the bench. That won't happen every game.
Some additions need to be made as soon as possible. Jahmai Simpson-Pusey is expected to be Celtic's next summer signing.
Everything has been agreed for a while now, but then, why has not the signing been made official? Well. Rodgers has an update on the situation and when the announcement could be made. As reported by Celtic365, the Northern Irish manager said:
"Yeah, I think we’re still waiting for clearance on that one, but he’s up here, and I think obviously once it is definite, then it will be announced. He’s up here ready for the move."
Brendan Rodgers confirms when Celtic will announce next signing
It is safe to say that Celtic needed to make an addition at centre-back. But is Simpson-Pusey the player that they need right now, that too on loan?
He has played very little senior-level football. As a result, there is expected to be an adjustment period. But how much playing time can Celtic afford to give him, if he is not ready straight off the bat? Is he being viewed as a backup option?
There are a lot of questions that do not seem to have a clear answer at this point in time. Hopefully, we will find them soon.
Also, it is very possible that Simpson-Pusey turns out to be someone like Jeremie Frimpong and just gets into the starting XI immediately. Incidentally, he was also brought in from Manchester City.
