During Brendan Rodgers' first stint as Celtic manager, one relationship that the club benefited from was the one that they shared with Manchester City. Quite a few made the move from the English club to Glasgow. One name that comes to mind immediately in that regard is that of Patrick Roberts, who was phenomenal for the Hoops.
It looks like Celtic might now be trying to recreate that magic. And they have a Manchester City defender on their radar.
Centre-back is one position where Celtic need to strengthen this summer. They have Cameron Carter-Vickers as a nailed-on starter but the spot beside him has been up in the air for the previous two seasons, since Carl Starfelt left to join Celta Vigo. Could a 19-year-old Manchester City starlet be the answer to the Hoops' issues?
As reported by the ever-reliable Mark Hendry on CeltsAreHere, Celtic have made an official loan approach for Manchester City's Jahmai Simpson-Pusey. He is considered one of their brightest young prospects right now.
Breaking: Celtic make official approach for Manchester City defender
Manchester City arguably have the best youth setup in world football right now. Just think of the names that have come through those ranks in recent years. And Simpson-Pusey could be next in line.
He was named PL2 Player of the Year last season. Simpson-Pusey also captained Manchester City’s youth side to their fourth Premier League 2 title.
There is no doubt that he is an elite talent and if Celtic are able to sign him, even on loan, it has the potential to be a major coup for the Hoops. If they can get this deal over the line, they should definitely do. But it won't be easy as clubs in England are believed to be interested in signing the centre-back as well.
