Just when it looked like Celtic were moving in the right direction, cold water has been poured on those hopes, leaving the fans deflated once again. Reports broke out yesterday that the Hoops were set to sign Bobby Clark from RB Salzburg in January for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of £6 million.
To be honest, the timing seemed a bit off from the get-go. Clark is out on loan at Derby County right now and playing consistent football. So, why would any such deal be agreed in mid-October?
Then again, there are things that happen behind the scenes that fans almost always do not have an idea about. Alex Valle did leave Celtic in the middle of the season, cutting short his loan deal from FC Barcelona, to join Como FC. So, the Clark rumour could not be brushed away.
Well, now it can. That is because Brendan Rodgers has pretty much confirmed that there is absolutely nothing to it.
Bobby Clark to Celtic U-turn confirmed by Brendan Rodgers
As reported by CeltsAreHere, Rodgers said when talking about the speculation linking Celtic with a move for Clark:
"It’s one that’s come from a long way out.
“I wouldn’t normally say anything on anything, but I really don’t know where that has come from at all. Especially in October.
“I’m really not sure where that’s come from."
Clark is someone who has been linked with Celtic in the past as well, back when he was still at Liverpool. He eventually ended up completing a £10 milliion move to RB Salzburg though and finds himself out on loan in the Championship at the moment.
So, it has not exactly gone as smoothly as he would have hoped. And there is a possibility that he could look to engineer an exit at some point.
That being said, there does not seem to be anything at all when it comes to the rumours of a move to Celtic close to being agreed. That is one that we can put under the list of speculation that led absolutely nowhere.
