Brendan Rodgers' long-term future at Celtic remains up in the air. His current deal runs out next summer and after how this transfer window unfolded, it is hard to imagine that there is any chance that the Northern Irishman would extend his contract at Parkhead. In fact, as Premier League clubs start sacking managers this season, one would imagine that his agent would be on the receiving end of a few phone calls as well.
On numerous occasions, Rodgers has reiterated though that he is intent on seeing his contract through. And we expect him to do that.
But after that, Celtic might be on the lookout for a new manager. Inevitably, Ange Postecoglou is someone who is going to be linked to the job.
It is at Celtic that he got his first big chance in European football and Postecoglou repaid that trust by rebuilding the team and delivering five trophies in two seasons before leaving for Tottenham Hotspur. He delivered the Europa League there as well but was shown the exit door weeks later. Now, he is without a job. Could a return to Parkhead be on the cards? As reported by CeltsAreHere, Charlie Mulgrew said on the Go Radio Football Show:
"I’ve heard people mention, if Brendan Rodgers leaves in the summer, he might be somebody that would potentially come back.
“I don’t know. It would probably be definitely, the question would be definitely asked, you’d imagine."
Blockbuster Ange Postecoglou Celtic return claim made
Postecoglou certainly managed to connect with the fans during his time at Celtic. In a way that many other managers have not been successful in doing, despite delivering success on the pitch.
When he left, the fans were disappointed. But it would be safe to say that most would welcome him back with open arms.
Postecoglou might very well be a better manager now as well, having managed at the Premier League level and proven that he can deliver silverware at the Europa League as well. If he is without a job come next summer, expect the question to be asked for sure.
