Benjamin Nygren has said he understands why fans are angry after Celtic's disastrous 2-0 loss to Dundee United.

The club have been struggling this season and the loss at the weekend has tipped some people over the edge. Anger was directed everywhere - from underperforming players to the board - and it's understandable why.

Nygren has spoken to Fotboll Skanalen about the fan anger, saying:

"Unfortunately, we lost a very important match. Individually, I have done very well, so I still come [to the national team] with a lot of confidence.

A lot has happened. We have had some coach changes, and there are very many requirements in a big club like Celtic. We have not lived up to those demands. We went out in the playoffs in the Champions League, and we don't lead the league. It's been a bit mixed.

There's been a lot to experience. The fans I’ve met have been very good and positive. The ones I met on the streets of Glasgow. But then I also understand the anger from the fans, when it’s such a big club. They are used to winning so many titles every year. When you may not meet the demands that exist, I understand that anger."

At least someone understands. Right now, a lot of Celtic outrage is being labelled as "entitlement" by Scottish Premiership fans on social media, but that is far from the case. No one likes to lose out on a league title, but even more so when the reason is a lack of proper investment, recruitment and team-building.

The title isn't gone just yet

Fans may be angry right now, and rightfully so, but we all need to get behind the team after domestic football returns after the international break.

Callum McGregor said this week that the Hoops need at least five or six wins from seven games to have a chance at the title, and although he is being a little bit optimistic, as some would say we need to win every league match, the message is that things aren't over. The loss at Tannadice certainly put a dampener on things, but we're still in the race.

The best thing the club could do is get the Green Brigade ultras group back in the ground and call for fan unity. Everyone needs to be on the same page, and they still aren't. Hopefully, a resolution can be reached over the break, but sadly, that doesn't seem likely.

All we can hope is that it's not another board decision that costs us the league. Let's get behind the players and give them our full support for this final run-in.
