This summer window promises to be a busy one for Celtic. They have shown an urgency this time around that we have not seen in their transfer activity since the departure of Ange Postecoglou as manager. While the pre-contract with Kieran Tierney was agreed a long time ago, it looks like they have one with Ross Doohan as well. Moves for Callum Osmand and Isaac English are believed to be close. And it looks like personal terms have been met with Benjamin Nygren.

That's quite a bit of activity in terms of incomings, whether you agree with the signings or not. On the other hand, plenty of players are expected to leave the club this summer as well.

One of them is Stephen Welsh. He spent time out on loan at KV Mechelen and did well. Now, it looks like a permanent move could be in his future.

As reported by the Daily Record, KV Mechelen want a permanent deal for Welsh after a successful time in Belgium. On the other hand, other Belgian and European clubs are also keeping a keen eye on his situation.

Welsh came through the youth ranks at Celtic and played a decent bit of football in the 20/21 campaign, when things were not going there way at all. But since then, the centre-back's game tie has been limited.

He has been as an option off the bench at best. Now 25 years of age, Welsh needs to be playing a lot more regularly and that is why it might be time for to consider a permanent exit.

Interestingly, Celtic need a centre-back. Auston Trusty has not met expectations since his arrival from Sheffield United while most view Liam Scales as a role player rather than a starter. But it is unlikely that that will lead to more opportunities for Welsh.
