In the January transfer window, the expectation is that we will see Celtic make quite a few additions to the squad. One of the players they have been linked with recently is Axel Disasi of Chelsea. As reported by 67 Hail Hail earlier this month, the Hoops have been ‘made aware’ by intermediaries about Raheem Sterling, Deivid Washington and the French international.
Of course, that is no guarantee that Celtic will choose to make a move. But considering the injury troubles at both centre-back and right-back, it would be one worth considering for sure. Disasi played in the previous World Cup final and could be a steady performer for the club, if brought in on loan until the end of the season as the likes of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Alistair Johnston recover from long-term injuries.
Amid all this, there has been a twist in the tale lately when it comes to Disasi's situation at Chelsea. He had been training away from the first-team for months. But recently, it is believed that he has been reintegrated once again into Enzo Maresca's squad.
That is a result of Chelsea's own injury problems at the moment which have left them scrambling for options at the back. That being said, it also raised doubts over Disasi's availability in the upcoming January transfer window. Now, there is a fresh update on that situation, and one which Celtic fans might like, if they want to see the Frenchman playing in a green-and-white jersey from January.
BBC journalist hands Celtic Axel Disasi transfer boost
As reported by Nizaar Kinsella on BBC, Disasi is being rewarded for good behaviour behind the scenes. That opens the door to some minutes at the senior level, but he remains available in January.
Once again, just because Celtic were informed about Disasi's availability does not mean that they will definitely make a move for him. But it does look like the option will be out there in January.
A lot will depend on the managerial situation as well. The squad needs a rebuild but that needs to be done in the presence of a permanent manager. A few days earlier, it had looked like Wifried Nancy was close to being appointed and many expected that it would be completed before the international break came to an end. That has come and gone, and nothing has materialised yet.
The club also put out an official statement confirming that Martin O'Neill and Shaun Maloney would be continuing in interim charge until a permanent manager was appointed. It is hard to imagine that they would be doing that if that appointment were days away.
