After the terrible summer transfer window, Celtic fans will be expecting the club to make it up in the winter. There are a number of positions where the Hoops need to make additions. The squad needs a rebuild with a new manager set to arrive soon, although the timing remains unclear. On top of that, they have a long list of injury problems as well, which has further weakened the roster.
The one position where Celtic urgently need to make a signing is striker. Kyogo Furuhashi and Adam Idah were never replaced. On the other hand, Daizen Maeda is expected to depart this winter after seeing an exit blocked in the summer.
Also, Callum Osmand is out for the foreseeable future. He had started to impress after Martin O'Neill's arrival and even scored a vital goal in the win against the Rangers. But he suffered an injury against FC Midtjylland and has had to undergo surgery. On the other hand, Kelechi Iheanacho is also out injured at the moment and with Brendan Rodgers now gone, there are question marks over his place at the club moving forward.
So, all things considered, Celtic need to sign a striker in January. Interestingly, they have been named among the favourites to sign Troy Parrott. Clubs like Everton, West Ham United, Leeds United and others are in the running as well.
Celtic named favourites to sign Irish international hero
Parrott came through the ranks at Tottenham Hotspur but was never able to make the grade at the London club. Still just 23 years of age, he is now delivering on the promise that had excited so many about his future though.
He has scored 13 goals in 14 appearances for AZ this season. In the previous campaign, he managed 20. But it is his heroics at the international level that have been the talk of the footballing world in recent days.
He scored a game-winning brace in Ireland's 2-0 win over Portugal before scoring a hattrick in the 3-2 win against Hungary. That means that the Irish national team is still in contention to make the World Cup and Parrott is a legend in the eyes of many already.
