Celtic are set to sign Kieran Tierney in the summer when the Scottish left-back's contract with Arsenal is set to expire. It is a bold move from him as he could have easily continued playing in England or another top five European league. It is the kind of decision that turns you from a club hero to a legend.
It is also believed that Celtic have been trying to agree a loan deal for Tierney with Arsenal. That would bring forward his Parkhead return by half-a-season and the move would become permanent in the summer.
Celtic do need to strengthen at left-back as well with Alex Valle leaving, with his loan deal from FC Barcelona being cut short, in order to join Como. That leaves Greg Taylor as the only option in that position.
So, if Tierney joined Celtic on loan before the transfer window slams shut, it would be a massive help for the club. But unfortunately, it looks like such a move is not on the cards.
Arsenal decision on Kieran Tierney joining Celtic this winter
As reported by The Telegraph, Tierney will stay at Arsenal for the final six months of his contract to be part of a Premier League title push. The London club have made it clear that he is staying in Mikel Arteta’s squad for the rest of the campaign.
So, it looks like Arsenal have closed the door on an early return to Celtic for Tierney. Now, it remains to be seen if the club end up trying to sign an alternative option until the end of the campaign.
They have recently been linked with Manchester United left-back, Tyrell Malacia. And with Arsenal's stance becoming clear, expect more names to crop up in the Celtic rumour mill over the last few days of the transfer window.
