England has always been a popular destination for Scotland's best footballing talents. Many choose to begin their careers in their homeland before eventually making the move down south. But then, there are those who are happy enough to make that journey early on in their careers rather than waiting to develop their games further. Unfortunately, Celtic have missed out on one of their targets.

Callan Hamill of St Johnstone is someone who had the chance to join both Celtic and the Rangers. That goes on to show how highly he is rated in Scottish footballing circles.

He passed up on the chance to join the Glasgow giants though. Instead, he is now set to make the move down south and join one of the Premier League's biggest teams.

As reported by The Athletic, Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Hamill. He had turned down Celtic and Rangers in the past.

Hamill will have to wait a bit longer before he does make the move south. But it is quite clear that Celtic have missed out on their chance to bring in one of Scotland's brightest talents.

Of course, this has not been a rare case in recent years. In fact, that club have had a tough time keeping the players they already have in their own system.

It is not hard to understand why that has been the case either. Who was the last player to make the jump from the Celtic academy and become a regular starter for the Hoops at the senior level?

We will answer that question for you. It was Kieran Tierney. So, it is safe to say that it was a long time ago and a pathway into the senior team simply does not exist for the majority of their youngsters. Naturally, plenty are happy to leave and try their luck elsewhere.
