It appears that Celtic are ready to look towards the loan route to fill their need at centre-back. And it looks like they have a Manchester City defender on their radar. Of course, while it has not happened as often in recent years, quite a few players have made that journey over the years. That includes names like Patrick Roberts, Jason Denayer, John Guidetti and Daniel Arzani.
So, there is a strong history of players joining Celtic on loan from Manchester City. Of course, with the Premier League club's ownership now having a network of teams all around the globe, they have not had to send their youngsters outside that umbrella often lately.
Of course, we have already heard of the rumours linking Celtic with a move for Manchester City centre-back Jahmai Simpson-Pusey. Now, there is an update on that situation from one of the most reliable sources in Scottish football.
As reported by Anthony Joseph, Celtic are in talks to sign Manchester City's Simpson-Pusey. It’s understood that the clubs are discussing terms on a season-long loan deal for the 19-year-old. English teams are also keen on the defender.
Anthony Joseph drops major Jahmai Simpson-Pusey to Celtic update
So far, Simpson-Pusey has made six senior appearances for Manchester City, with two of them coming in the Premier League. But all things considered, there is very little scope for him to get regular football in Pep Guardiola's side at this point in his career.
So, going out on loan might be the best step forward. And as we all know, Celtic are in need of adding to their centre-back ranks. On paper, it all makes perfect sense for all parties.
Of course, will a 19-year-old centre-back be able to hold a starting spot at a club like Celtic. That is an interesting question we will get the answer to if the club are able to get a deal done to bring Simpson-Pusey to Parkhead.
