For months, Celtic have been linked with a long list of defensive midfielders. Right now, the focus might be on strengthening other areas of the pitch, namely the wings and up front. But at some point in this summer transfer window, expect to see the Hoops add some steel in the middle of the park. In fact, it looks like they are already trying to make that happen.

Now, it looks like a Spanish defensive midfielder is on their radar. And the Hoops have already initiated talks over a move.

As reported by ClassLFC, Celtic have contacted Liverpool about Stefan Bajcetic, preferring a loan-to-buy deal. The Premier League champions are open to a permanent deal if the offer is right and are set to discuss his future post their Asia tour.

This was followed by a report from KrrishFT stating that the idea for Celtic is to sign Bajcetic on a loan with an option or obligation to buy. The Scottish champions have already made initial contact with Liverpool regarding the move.

Bajcetic has made 22 senior appearances for Liverpool already. And at 20 years of age, he now needs to take the next step in his developement.

Last season, he had two loan stints away from Liverpool. He spent the first half of the campaign at RB Salzburg, played some football there and was brought back in the winter and sent to Las Palmas.

But at this point in time, it is hard to imagine that he will be playing regular football for a team like Liverpool, who are stacked with options all over the pitch. So, leaving again, whether on loan or permanently, seems to be the best path forward for him. And Celtic might be a great landing spot for the Spanish youth international.
