Another Celtic transfer U-turn before summer window ends

It looks like there is another Celtic transfer U-turn before the summer window ends, as fans continue to worry.

Following a fast start to the summer transfer window, it feels like Celtic have lost their way. They have been linked with a lot of players over the past several weeks, but barely any additions have been completed and no significant ones. Their lack of activity has been even more confusing when it has been very clear that they are light on options in multiple positions and have a Champions League qualifier play-off to deal with, which will be against Kazakh side Kairat Almaty.

One position in need of immediate reinforcements is the wing. James Forrest cannot be a first-choice starter at this point in his career, let's just say that.

Yet, he will most probably start when Celtic welcome Kairat to Parkhead in the first leg of their important Champions League qualification tie. So, by allowing things to drag on, the Hoops have gotten themselves into a tough spot.

Things do not seem to be getting any better either. Until now, it had looked like Michel-Ange Balikwisha was one of the most likely signings the club could make in the remainder of this summer transfer window. But now, it looks like that possibility is completely off the table.

As reported by CeltsAreHere, Royal Antwerp are thought to be asking for between £4 million and £5 million to part ways with Balikwisha, which is proving to be a stumbling block. Mark Hendry said:

"Michel-Ange Balikwisha was always a long shot, and now it’s looking like a complete non-starter."

To be very honest, that sounds like a very reasonable transfer demand for a player like Balikwisha. He is proven in the Belgian league and has represented the nation at youth international levels as well. In the modern market, you have to pay that sort of a fee to get players like him.

Sometimes, it feels like Celtic have a desire to 'win' every transfer that they are involved in. Quite often, that results in them missing out on signings that where there to be made.

Or perhaps, we are looking at the entire situation in the wrong way. Maybe it has always been the plan to wait for the Champions League qualifier to play out before making the final few moves of the summer transfer window. After all, it has not been rare for the Scottish champions to leave things till the last minute.
