This winter transfer window has been filled with twists and turns for Celtic. They have been linked with a lot of players, perhaps far too many, but only a couple of them have led to anywhere of significance. Julian Araujo was brought in from Bournemouth on loan while Wilfried Nancy was still the manager. Since then, Tomas Cvancara has also been signed from Borussia Monchengladbach with a £7 million option to buy in the summer.
On the other hand, there have been links with several other players, but they have failed to get plenty of them over the line. Names that come to mind immediately are Kyogo, Jocelin Ta Bi and Niko Sigur.
Now, it looks like another name could be added to that list. And it is someone that they have already put in an offer for, if rumours are on the mark.
The player we are talking about is none other than Mohamed Bamba. Reports have suggested that Celtic have put in a loan offer for the FC Lorient striker. That might be derailed due to an injury though.
Another Celtic transfer could collapse as target suffers injury
Bamba appears to have picked up an injury, although the extent of it is not clear. As reported by Le Telegramme (via The Celtic Way), Lorient manager Olivier Pantaloni said:
"Mo suffered a knee injury. He received treatment yesterday.
"He was feeling better, but we preferred to keep him with the physiotherapist in the gym. We do not have more on his fitness."
Of course, it is possible that it might not be anything serious, in which case, it might not be an obstacle when it comes to signing Bamba this winter. But it would not be ideal to bring in someone who is already dealing with a fitness issue.
Another worry is Bamba's poor goalscoring record. The striker has managed to score just three goals in 17 appearances this season for Lorient. Only one of them has come in Ligue 1 competition in 16 games. That is not a player who is in form, which is what Celtic need right now, having already brought in another out-of-form forward in the form of Tomas Cvancara.
